Philly Food Not Bombs, Hurricanes Katrina & Rita, & You!

10/01/2005 UPDATE:

While Philadelphia did not receive as many refugees as originally expected from the Gulf Coast, your help in assisting and welcoming our new neighbors in Philadelphia has been greatly appreciated. If you would like to help in the effort to support Food Not Bombs chapters on the Gulf Coast, monetary donations are being accepted through FoodNotBombs.net Please follow the link below to donate a dollar (or more!) to help our friends on the Gulf Coast:

Also, this next link will connect you with descriptions of many wonderful organizations that you can donate to. These are very different and much more effective then top down, hierarchical organizations like the Red Cross:

9/09/2005: LOCAL RELIEF EFFORT A SUCCESS!:

Philly Food Not Bombs orchestrated a relief effort for the refugees from Katrina here in Philadelphia. With your help, we helped welcome our new neighbors here in Philly.

Philadelphia Food Not Bombs and our new neighbors thank you!

Philly Food Not Bombs, Hurricane Katrina, & You!

Philly Food Not Bombs is orgazining a relief effort for the refugees from Katrina. However, we still got the original dispossessed in Philly so we are donating half of what we receive to local shelters and the other half to the Katrina effort.

What we need:

a. Games, toys, puzzles, books, fun stuff, etc.
b. Clothes, shoes, blankets, sheets, socks, etc.
c. Canned goods, boxed food, non-perishables please!

Where you can take it:

1. Box at the Book Corner at 20th and Wood...standard business hours.

2. Box @ Tiny House @ 4055 Ludlow. Just toss it over the fence.

3. Failure House @ 5046 Cedar Avenue...leave it on the porch.

4. The Glory Hole @ Sixth and Girard. Give Jessie a call @ 267-514-6382, if you plan on dropping stuff off and he'll give you the address.

We will be picking all this stuff up on Monday (9/12) around 4:00 PM and taking it down to the schools and to various shelters.

So this is just a start, but we would like to do way more!! If you want to get involved in this effort or Food Not Bombs drop us an email at:
